About Single Deck Blackjack™
Even those who are new to blackjack will have no trouble finding their way around this game. It’s pretty much the same as standard Blackjack, but instead of six decks of cards, there is only one. You play against the dealer, not other players, and your aim is to get as close as possible to 21, without exceeding the number. The exceptions from the standard “Las Vegas Strip” rules are: upon the end of each round, the deck will be shuffled; player may split only once and it is allowed to double after splitting (but only on 10 and 11); the splitting can be done into two hands; there can be no late surrender; the dealer will check for Blackjack only if his open card is an ace, and the player takes insurance.
Apart from these exceptions, there are some features which should help you improve your odds against the dealer, or protect yourself in case you predict an unfavorable outcome. Those are split, insurance, and double down. Also, if you feel lucky at predicting the first card you get, you may want to try high-low side bet, which allows you to guess whether your first card will be higher or lower than the dealer’s first card.
It’s good to play different variations of Blackjack, as it allows you to develop your own system over time, and keeps your brain as busy as a worker bee. Besides, there’s a good reason why blackjack is one of the most popular card games in the world – if you play it well, it’s not only fun, but rewarding as well.
